It began over 30 years ago in self defense! Here I was, fresh from my interior design major at SDSU with 4 young teenagers. I wasn’t ready to leave them alone and was sure no one would hire me if I declared “My kids come first!” I jumped at the chance to sublet a studio space from another designer in Sorrento Valley and Carol Spong Interior Design was born.
My mentor was a professional ASID member, encouraged me to join ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), and take the qualifying exam to become a professional member, too. In quick succession I passed the 2 day NCIDQ (Nat’l Council for Interior Design Qualification) exam, joined the San Diego Chapter of ASID and began to meet the local design community. Showcase houses and chapter volunteerism soon followed. I was learning so much of what is impossible to learn in school and soon realized how much fun it is working with the construction/ remodel part of the industry. I loved being on jobsites, seeing changes happen, interacting with craftspeople and having clients be thrilled with the results. It is truly a joy to be able to fulfill a client’s vision.
My design philosophy is that each project must reflect the client’s personality, not the designer’s. I use a great tool called Designer’s Insight to help me quickly zero in on my client’s style, color preferences, etc. and I work with all the people who will be using the space if possible. I am confident working in any style from traditional through contemporary. I work well with others and enjoy working on a team.
Enjoy your time on the website and call or email and I’ll be happy to talk about your project with you.
